I am seeing a counselor who wants to try hypnosis to get deeper into underlying issues with stress and anxiety. i am afraid of not having control, something bad happening, and not even sure it works. don’t want to say anything i am not ready to talk about, or possibly say something that i don’t understand when i am not under hypnosis. anyone have any experience?

theory suggests that individuals are “playing a role” and that really there is no such thing as hypnosis. A relationship is built depending on how much rapport has been established between the “hypnotist” and the subject. Could this be the same as a vicar and a congregation, each person “plays along” through subconcious peer pressure?
Generally, during the communication process people can become more receptive to suggestion, causing changes in the way they feel, think, and behave. Some psychologists such as Robert Baker claim that what we call hypnosis is actually a form of learned social behavior, a complex hybrid of social 1.compliance,
2.relaxation,
3.suggestibility that can account for many esoteric behavioral manifestations

I have heard of hypnosis (I don’t really want to waste my $ on that), then there is therapy/counseling (of course). Have you heard of any methods that work?

I have persistent anxious thoughts about the same things involving my relationship and relationships in general (like whether or not I will ever get married) and my therapist is a certified hypnotist as well. I figure it can’t hurt to try it, seeing as I’ve tried everything else to become less needy and dependant, and anxious, including medication. I’ve heard multiple things about hypnosis. Does it actually work?

Do Self Hypnosis Cds Work
Hypnotism is the process a person undergoes when he or she experiences an altered state of mind, which primarily changes his or her actions, thoughts and focus on certain topics. In hypnotism, a person is being commanded by a stimulus that might as well motivate the mind to follow every command bestowed on him. Hypnotism is not as bad as black magic as the superstitious people might think. Back in the ancient times, hypnotism has been widely used for many purposes, be it for medical treatments, psychological therapies, stress relievers, enhancement of well-being and most especially self-improvement self therapy hypnotism. Many people were driven to undergo hypnosis mainly due to stress. Overall, people would turn to hypnosis due to the desire to improve their lives.

I understand it depends on how much you believe in it… and I fancy myself as a believer… but does it actually work?
I have this intense fear of choking induced by anxiety and I’ve been having difficulty eating for the last few months.
Will hypnosis snap me out of this stupid phobia and get me back to normal?

Is there something super natural about it or is it just people knowing how the mind works and controling it? The things they do seem to be so simple and you wonder how they can realy control someones mind.

I’m 16, i’ve been suffering with social anxiety ever since I could remember. I’m tired of it and am willing to spend some cash on a hypnotherapist to get rid of it.
What I expect from hypnosis is being able to communicate w/ people without caring about what they think and breaking the walls and barriers disabling me to speak up, those w/ social anxiety know what i’m talking about. Please don’t tell me just to “do it” because you don’t know how hard it is if you don’t have social anxiety.
Would that happen if I see a therapist for social anxiety? Does it actually work? Will I see a dramatic change in my personality? And how much would it cost?

There’s an old Chinese proverb that states: “One picture is worth a thousand words.” In conveying suggestions to the subconscious, we have found that picture images are more effective than the words that are implanted. For example, it isn’t sufficient to say, “I will be confident.” The words must be augmented by a picture of yourself as the confident person you want to be. If you say, “I can’t visualize myself as a confident person because I have never been that way,” you can “borrow” those personality traits that you want for yourself. Imagine yourself endowed with the characteristics of some confident person that you know. The qualities that you seek may even be borrowed from a famous person. If this isn’t possible, make up a personality which is a composite of all the things you want to be. See yourself walking, talking and carrying on activities. Keep fortifying this image with the mental suggestions that are needed. It won’t be long before these mental impressions give rise to the confident feelings that you seek. As you keep implanting these images, they will become a natural part of your conscious personality.
