Hypnotherapy for Insomnia – Hypnotherapy Sydney

My approach to treating insomnia is a holistic one. I like to get information about the patient with regard to any particular stresses the patient may be experiencing. I will also inquire about lifestyle, occupation, nutrition, alcohol, cigarette consumption and recreational drug use.

I have seen a variety of patients for insomnia: A fighter pilot, a flight engineer, a company executive and various other people. In many cases the main cause of the insomnia is the self-talk or monologue that goes on in the patient’s mind when the patient goes to bed. It often prevents sleep occurring.

In other cases the patient make wake up long before it is time to get up and starts to think about work-related issues. The patient needs to be instructed to “lock the thoughts away” until the next morning.

Josie Hadley, a very successful and experienced hypnotherapist has identified the types of monologues typical of insomniacs. Here are three types of monologues that may sound familiar to you:

The Clock Watcher: “Oh no, it’s one thirty in the morning. I’ve been in bed since eleven and I still can’t sleep. What can I do? I won’t be able to work tomorrow. I’ll look worn out and drained. I’ll feel terrible. Oh no, now it’s almost two o’clock. Even if I get to sleep in five minutes I’ll only be able to sleep four hours. I can’t get by on only four hours sleep.”The Doomsayer: “I can’t sleep and I’m completely miserable. Everything is messed up lately anyway. I can’t seem to make anything work out, not even getting to sleep. Life is just one negative experience after another. Now insomnia is another punishment I have to endure.”

The Fixer: “I have to figure out of this one or I’m going to be in deep trouble … What if I try to … I’ll say this to him and this is what he’ll say back … Oh there’s no way out and all I can do is go around in circles. What if …”Sleep is an elusive state, you can’t force it; it has to come to you.

The majority of work in cases of insomnia has to be done prior to hypnosis being induced. Resolution is not always achieved by just “implanting” a post hypnotic suggestion that the patient will “sleep like a baby.” Post hypnotic suggestion for sleep will work better once the underlying causes of the insomnia have been uncovered and dealt with. In the next article I will discuss Hypnotherapy in Sydney for smoking.

With the increasing stressful levels, many are prone to sleeping disorder called insomnia. People suffering from insomnia find it very difficult to sleep and wake up to slightest disturbances caused. Though there are many medications available in the market, these drugs are prescribed by authorized doctors for a shorter period for treating insomnia. They are highly addictive and also cause side effects. The other best way through which one can overcome insomnia and find out the reason behind the occurrence of the problem is sleep hypnosis.

Hypnosis is termed as the process of relaxing and bring your brain to unconsciousness state of mind while you are awake. At this particular state, brain is more open to suggestions and is more active than the normal working condition. Now, the therapist will improve and provide suggestions to your brain such that it follows them and improves your overall performance and activeness. Sleep hypnosis can be used to treat primary, middle and critical insomnia.

Therapist and individual who is undergoing hypnosis treatment, agree on the approach of the treatment before a session is carried out and discuss on the points that are to be changed and provide positive vibrations to the brain. This helps one achieve their target and will provide the cure for insomnia. Positive wavelengths provided to brain act more in the unconscious state, which then circulate throughout even when a person is awake. It is very important that you train and control your brain in such situations to attain maximum response and positive attitude and thinking.

Therapists influence frequencies of sleep under hypnosis to attain peaceful sleep and improve your sleeping pattern and cure insomnia. Apart from curing insomnia, sleep hypnosis can be utilized to cure different health issues without the fear of being addicted as the process is conducted in a natural way without any medication. You can discontinue the sessions when you feel you have attained the required cure to your sleeping disorder. You can observe the changes right from the first session carried out which improves your sleeping. Once the first session is carried out successfully, the next session is carried out in order to find the real cause to your problem.

Now that you have understood the importance of sleep hypnosis, if you or any one of the member of your family suffer from insomnia, it is high time that you visit a well know hypnotist therapist you will help cure the problem without any side effects.

I have been an insomniac for 3 1/2 years now which has disrupted my daily activity and school work. i often only get 2-3 hours sleep a night. i will reveal my age by telling you im 15 to maybe help with the answer.

I have tried absolutely everything but nothing has ever worked.
I have tried physiotherapy, hypnosis, natural drugs, unnatural drugs (legal), milk before bed, going to bed extremely early (7:30pm), staying outside half an hour before bed, deep breathing, herbal teas, different types of food, not eating before bed, doing heaps of exercise, counselors, doctors, clinics, different beds in different rooms, not eating after dinner, not watching tv or playing electronic games, acupuncture, thinking as blankly as possible, not swimming near bed time and getting massages before bed.

i bet that if you name something, i would have tried it.

i often go to bed at 10:30 these days and don’t get to sleep until about 3am. i will then wake at about 4:30am and then get back to sleep at 6:30am, staying asleep until i have to wake up at 7:30.

This problem wouldn’t be as bad if i was old and jobless, but i am in secondary school and need to focus on school work and being social. both of which are incredibly hard when i am so tired.

the main reason i don’t sleep is because a million thoughts go into my brain. i can’t stop them and they are very constant. every time i try to think blank, something will pop into my head. The thoughts are completley random. The thoughts may be of something i did that day, something i did years ago, something completley made up or something i might do in the future. The thoughts are often imaginitive and are all over the place.

Nothing significant happened when this problem started so i am completely confused.

My diet is normal and i do a normal amount of exercise.

Please help!

I’m a chronic insomniac and have been working with my DR. on the problem for the past 8 years. Any ideas on what can help. Here’s what hasn’t. Gave up caffine, bedroom used for sleeping only (no tv), regular exercise, routine bedtime rituals, not eating after a certain hour, hot bath 90 min before bed time. Making my bed the most comfortable place I know. Hypnosis (cured my smoking habit so I thought I’d try). Fan on in bedroom to drown out noises that could wake me up when I do fall asleep, aroma therapy, calming music, and reading books. OTC’s like including tylonol pm, and Nyquil. (works for a coupled days then doesn’t) RX such as Lunesta, Ambien and Rozerem (to mention a few) all with no results. The only thing that gives relief at all is Xanex, but it’s controlled and after 5 years on it, my tolerance is very high and it’s not working well anymore. Any suggestions? I need to get some sleep! Thanks
**oh, and I forgot to mention all the herbal products I tried. Please help.
I asked the dr about a sleep study, but she says it’s not sleep apnea, so it wouldn’t help. I asked for other benzos and she says I’ll have the same tolerance. I’m on both an antidepressant and an antihistamine, neither of which helped. Some great answers though. As for the pot, if it could be prescribed I absolutely would try, but at this time, it’d cost me my career. We have manditory testing at my job. Oh yeah, I’ve done the graveyard shift too. Same issue only worse. I know it seems I have an answer for almost anything, but keep trying please. 8 years is far too many and I’m fed up. Thanks so much!!

Are you unable to sleep at night? Do you walk around your room in the wee hours of dawn because the arms of Morpheus refuse to invite you? This inability to sleep is called insomnia. Well, you are not alone! Thousands of people are suffering from this sleep disorder. You might have tried to self-medicate by taking sleeping pills and the like, but it is still ineffective. You must remember that insomniais not a disease but a symptom, so you have to cure the underlying cause before you could solve the problem successfully.

Treatment of insomnia

Before treating insomnia, you should determine what the possible root cause of your insomnia may be. There may be two possible causes for your insomnia, psychological and/or physiological reasons. Identify which type you may have then you can better find the cause and treat accordingly.

Psychological reasons

Stressful situations like, a breakup, an incoming momentous activity, or a scheduled public speaking assignment can cause insomnia. The insomnia in these particular examples are psychological and you should treat your insomnia by solving the root of the problem. Experts call this the transient insomniabecause it is only temporary. If you remove the stimuli then you remove the stress. This is an effective treatment for this type of insomnia.

Psychological treatment

Practice breathing and relaxing exercises

If done correctly, this could calm you down and you would be able to sleep. This could also involve de-stressing activities like doing your hobby and the like.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine

Alcohol and coffee in excess amounts will not help you sleep; they will make you stay awake because of their components, caffeine, and ethyl alcohol, which have effects on the central nervous system (CNS)

Take a warm bath before you to bed

When you are clean and refreshed, you may find id much easier to fall asleep.

Exercise spends energy.

The body sleeps easily if you have exercised a few hours earlier before sleeping. Physical exercise during the day leads to a restful sleep. Do not exercise an hour or less before sleeping as this would cause insomnia.

Physiological insomnia treatment:

In this type of insomnia, you can use therapeutic drugs like benzodiazepines, antihistamines, and herbal medications, but you should ingest these drugs under the supervision of a licensed doctor.

Medications are only recommended when the cause is pathologic and the homeostatic (internal balance) ability of the body could no longer control the dysfunctional organ.

Alternative treatment of insomnia

Acupuncture

They use needles in various focal points in the body called meridians. Acupuncturists believe that when you identify these points, and apply pressure or acupuncture needles, the insomnia will disappear.

Homeopathy

Insomnia is treated by preparing concoctions or solutions meant to contain properties to make you sleep.

Hypnosis

You are hypnotized and instructed to relax and just sleep. This is not advisable for persons with psychiatric tendencies as it may further aggravate the condition.

Insomnia has varied causes so you should consult a medical expert when the condition lasts long. Natural treatment is still the preferred solution for insomnia.

I try to enjoy life to its fullest! I have a passion for helping others. I have worked extensively with foster children for over five years and I have extensive studies in psychology and criminal justice. My latest endeavor is learning and studying about Natural, homeopathic and home remedies for all types of ailments. The more I learn about these old remedies the more fascinating it gets to see just how much nature can teach us.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that is characterized by having difficulty falling asleep as well as difficulty staying asleep. Insomnia is a common problem, for some people it means experiencing an occasional sleepless night every now and then. Others have trouble getting enough adequate sleep almost every night.

The best solution to cure insomnia is to find the root cause and remove it. Of course, the problem is not always that easy. But if your insomnia is caused by your lifestyle, the best long-term solution is to change your lifestyle. In most cases, it is better to do one small change at a time, rather than trying to change everything at once. The latter approach is too ambitious for most people. Without fast results it is easy to get discouraged and give up. A healthier lifestyle has many more benefits than just improving your sleep.

Some of the most reliable ways to cure insomnia naturally are:

Try to include some physical activity into your day. Not only can exercises make you sleep better but you get other health benefits as well. Just a daily 30 minute brisk walk is a good beginning for most people. Just make sure that you avoid heavy exercises in the evening, your body needs time to cool down.

Create your own bedtime routine, so your brain knows it is time to cool down and go to bed. This should include something relaxing, such as listening to calm soothing music, so you start to cool down.

If you are feeling stressed or anxious, include meditation or anti-stress exercises in your day. Far too many worry about what may happen tomorrow. Decide to relax now and worry about things tomorrow, if they happen. It is far too common to worry about things that never happen.

Try hypnotherapy treatment by a professional hypnotist. Some chronic insomniacs have been cured by hypnosis. Unfortunately, this can become an expensive cure. It is cheaper to buy self-hypnosis CDs and do it yourself. But most of them seem to have limited effect compared to seeking help from a professional hypnotist.

Use special audio CDs to teach your brain to slow down before bedtime. You can re-program your brain to automatically prepare for sleep. This will create new neural pathways in your brain, permanently changing your ability to sleep. Once your brain has been re-programmed you do not need to listen to the CD anymore.

Preventing insomnia from developing requires knowledge on the potential factors that would hint at insomnia. In condition to be prepared, one can know what to prepare for. Knowledge of the causes of insomnia is necessary to prevent insomnia from developing.

There are several reasons for insomnia and most of them are been marked under physical, mental, emotional as well as medical, by identifying its cause one can easily look forward from the various kinds of treatments which may be advantageous to people who are suffering with sleep issues.

Poor sleep quality can be another sort of insomnia entirely. Suppose for a moment, that you go to sleep and get up exactly when you plan to each day but you never feel rested. That’s what I mean by poor sleep quality. You can often wind up waking up more exhausted than you were when you fell asleep. That’s why getting a good quality rest is just as important, if not more important, than getting a long rest.

True insomnia is a difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep and it may be due to inadequate quality or quantity of sleep. Insomnia is not simply gauged by a specific number of hours of sleep that you get. You have to realize that people vary widely in their sleep needs and routines. Insomnia Sleep Disorder

Causes of Insomnia: –

• Are you under a lot of stress?
• Are you depressed? Do you feel emotionally flat or hopeless?
• Do you struggle with chronic feelings of anxiety or worry?
• Are you taking any medications that might be affecting your sleep?
• Do you have any health problems that may be interfering with sleep?
• Is your sleep environment quiet and comfortable?
• Do you try to go to bed and get up around the same time every day?

Natural Remedies for Insomnia: –

• When you find that you cannot sleep, the first step should be to try and relax. You will never be able to do this on the bed, because your inability to fall asleep will irritate you further and aggravate your condition.
• Immerse yourself in hot water and a long drawn bath. You could use aromatic oils before or after the bath, and or aromatic candles to create a relaxing and pleasing atmosphere all around you.
• Listening to music might help as well. This could work best while or after taking the hot water bath, though it is okay when used singly also. As is the case of the books, you should choose music that is soothing and soft so it can relax you and induce sleep. Behavioral Therapy Self-hypnosis and auto-suggestion methods work pretty well. You will need to master the art of self-hypnosis from a professional.
• Reading has always been a great relaxing technique. However, not all type of reading will be helpful to you. Avoid any such topics that would excite you further, such as ghost stories, sexual fantasy stories, or puzzles. The best would be to read something that is pleasant yet simple – such as a magazine, newspaper, comic books, or a favorite bestseller.

There’s nothing worse than having to get up in the morning after a sleepless night, trying to go about your day to day tasks, feeling as if you are running on an empty tank; you can’t think straight, your body feels heavy and all you want to do is curl up in a ball and sleep. And yet, by the time darkness falls, your body seems to waken up and you just know that yet another sleepless night awaits you. A self-fulfilling prophesy then ensues.

Some people get to sleep and then awaken after an hour or so, wide awake and alert for the remaining hours before dawn, sleepiness returning at dawn, just when you need to get up. Others simply cannot get to sleep. There are many variations of sleep disturbances, but whatever your particular pattern is, the effect on your day to day life is extremely debilitating.

In an ideal world, the norm is to go to bed at night, fall asleep within a few minutes and awaken approximately seven and a half hours later. For some people it’s less, for some slightly more, but this is the average time required in sleep. As you sleep your brain wave patterns alter from the normal beta pattern of waking consciousness to the alpha waves of deep relaxation and on to the delta waves of sleep and the theta waves of REM sleep (dreaming). In normal sleep your brain waves pass through a cycle which takes about 90 minutes for each one and then the next cycle occurs, and this keeps happening throughout the night.

The theta wave (REM) stage of sleep is so essential to our well being that should you be deprived of it for very long you would become psychotic. (I’m not making that up, or over dramatizing this effect – it has been shown in scientific research.) During this stage of REM sleep there is interaction between the different areas of your brain which allows conflicts to be resolved, and this is played out symbolically in your dreams. You may not be aware of dreaming, but be assured you do. When deprived of sleep, your brain will ensure that what sleep you do have involves as much theta wave time as possible as a matter of sheer survival.

So what has hypnosis got to do with all this? In hypnosis your brain wave patterns also alter from beta to alpha-theta. Hypnosis is normal and natural; it is that same state that you achieve when you are between wake and sleep whereby the alpha brain wave pattern may be observed. And as you go into deeper hypnotic states the theta wave pattern is evident. Thus by learning to use self-hypnosis, you are in effect also learning the art of getting to sleep. You can actually learn HOW to get to sleep simply by listening to a hypnosis download.

For most of us we just go to sleep and we wake up and we have absolutely no idea of how it actually happens. For those who have lain awake, tossing and turning our way through the night, there is now an easy (and natural) solution; Armed with the knowledge of how our brain waves alter in sleep and that this is shown to be similar whilst in hypnosis, we now know HOW we can learn to get to sleep.

Most people do not realize what hypnosis actually is and so are afraid of it. It is a normal and natural state of relaxation and I encourage you to do a little bit of research for yourself, so that you can understand for yourself what it really is and appreciate what a valuable tool it is to our health and well being. Don’t just trust me; make sure you truly feel comfortable with this natural art.

Another fear that people have is that they are not susceptible to hypnosis. Let me reassure you that everyone is susceptible, to one degree or another. And hypnosis is like anything else you learn in life; you get better at it with practice, and therefore you can learn to access deeper and deeper states; just as the yogis have learned to access a theta state in moments, so too can you. It just takes practice, and this is easy with the guidance of a hypnosis download.

You can access a free hypnotic relaxation via the home page of my website. Try it out and see for yourself how easy it is to relax when you know how to do it. And notice too how you relax more quickly and deeply each time you use it.

Not only does learning to use self-hypnosis show you how to relax and sleep, you can take advantage of the increased communication between left and right brain functions which occur when in the alpha-theta state. I said earlier that conflict resolution is the purpose of the REM state; thus if you are suffering from inner turmoil, hypnosis provides the requisite environment in which to resolve it properly.

Insomnia can affect a person’s everyday life, and many have resorted to all kinds of cures and remedies just to get the much needed sleep. Sleep is a basic necessity for human beings, and deprivation from rest can have considerable negative physiological effects as tiredness continuously wears the body down. However, as people search for remedies and cures, one should take note that not all insomnia remedies work for all types of people, nor is one remedy applicable to all types of insomnia.

The natural ways of aiding one’s insomnia include an array of treatments, at times needing a specialist or can be easily accomplished on one’s own. An insomnia remedy such as acupuncture falls under the natural way or treating insomnia, and obviously a person needs to have a specialist to have this procedure. Aromatherapy, however, can easily be done at home. Scented candles, incenses, or oils are usually associated with this therapy.

Natural insomnia remedies:

1) Warm bath for sleep and relaxation: Taking a warm water bath 20 to 30 minutes before you go to sleep can help induce sleep. This technique relaxes your body completely. Your body becomes so calm that you will almost certainly fall asleep.

2) Sleep in a dark room: The second way to fall asleep quickly is to sleep in a dark room. Doing this causes your body to secrete a hormone that induces sleep. If required you can have a very dim night lamp.

3) Deep breathing for sound sleep: Third on the list of natural insomnia remedies is a technique that is used for many other ailments. If you can practice deep breathing it will help you sleep very peacefully. Deep breathing relives you of tension and stress. It also improves the oxygen supply to the body. Both these benefits of deep breathing are excellent insomnia cures.

4) Maintain sleep pattern: Another natural insomnia remedy is to maintain the sleep pattern. If you feel sleepy during the day, make sure you avoid a nap. By sleeping in the noon you will disturb the sleeping pattern and this will cause sleeplessness at night.

There is also what people call the spiritual remedy. Since insomnia can be caused by stress or anxiety, training one’s self to relax or meditate can be effective in remedying insomnia. Even prayer can help, all depending on how a person can easily (and psychologically) cope from stress and restlessness.

Diet, on the other hand, can also affect a person’s sleeping habits. It is not necessarily the question of what to eat to remedy insomnia, but also what not to eat to avoid it. Drinks chockfull of caffeine (sodas, energy drinks, coffee, etc.) should be avoided. Having a healthier diet can also help a person get enough sleep.

Training Yourself to Sleep With Self Hypnosis

Hypnosis also works as a natural remedy for insomnia. Depending on the causes of your insomnia, you’ll usually need two or three sessions. This is because when your body is completely relaxed your mind relaxes too — it’s impossible to feel stressed when you’re completely relaxed physically.

Insomnia causes lack of sleep and it is primarily a patient’s complaint. It is a symptom that means you sleep too short, too light or in broken lines and it is generally considered getting insufficient sleep. The interrogation and examination of the patient on hypnosis London in order to understand the insomnia is then divided into two main groups of insomnia, according to the initial causative factor.

The main causes for chemical, organic insomnia:

• muscle pain, bone or visceral disrupt all or part of sleep.
• Circulatory disorders of the lower limbs that are causing tingling, cramping or impatience that prevent sleep.
• Sleep Apnea that awaken the patient (8.5% of men between 40 and 65).
• Absorptions of exciting drinks like tea, coffee, alcohol, amphetamines, vitamin C.
• Abuse of sedatives, including the increased doses when the efficiency decreases.

The main causes related to thought that are provoking insomnia

• Stress from emotional or professional conflicts and before an examination or contest.
• The anxiety depression, where the insomnia is a symptom of some other manifestations of fear and anxiety.

Hypnotherapy London is indicated in the cases of insomnia that are to be integrated in the second group and you can experience the progressive withdrawal of hypnotics in these cases.

The insomnia is experienced in these cases as a desire for arousal, that is controlling everything and nothing. The intellectual hyperactivity leaves no room for respite and a well deserved rest. The chronic discomfort when sleep is no longer a refuge includes the fear of sleep, then fear not being able to sleep. Sleep deprivation eventually cause mental and physical exhaustion.

The hypnotic drugs are the cure that is the worst of all possible treatments because they are effective for sleep, but they create addiction. The patients that are moved into the certainty of sleep certainly and eventually prefer the stable imbalance that is caused by drugs in unstable equilibrium, they prefer a world without certainty to the better treatment.

Hypnosis London is a very effective therapy for any type of sleep disorders. Because of the abuse of the sleeping pills, this treatment often takes the appearance of a detoxification with all the symptoms of drug addiction that might appear. After this test, the confidence in your body will be slowly returning and the pleasure of sleeping without medication will be regained by the patient.
The technique of hypnosis London is used to relieve anxiety by suggestions of relaxation, and to realize a true rehabilitation of sleep. Hypnosis London has a kinship with falling asleep in that it requires a sensory deprivation: noise, light, temperature, and psychophysical relaxation before reaching the lethargy triggering sleep itself.

The peculiarity of the insomniac is precisely to help sleep; by obstructing a natural process, it is likely that attempts to control will definitely let go under hypnosis. The patient that is undergoing this treatment must be alert and he needs to be reminded that the suggestions will require a half-sleep in order to be effective.

I have suffered from ‘wake-up’ insomnia for some 20+ years. My night marauding is finally at an end. My clock is no longer my enemy.

I rolled over 10 times a night and looked at the time.

I took antidepressants.

I took sleeping pills.

I felt miserable at night.

I dreaded the coming day.

I worried constantly that I would not be able to perform adequately.

I was angry that this was happening to me.

I experienced a desperate sense of entrapment.

I was simply tired.

Enough!

I had existed in this state of sleeplessness, of one miserable night after another, for so long that I believed that a true, restful night was beyond my reach, like some unattainable state of well-being. Access denied! However, that was not the case because I discovered a new path to achieve my goal of a good nights’ sleep and obtain that deep sense of feeling good all day long.

When you experience not sleeping night after night, all you really want to do is sleep soundly. These years of hardship of mental and physical struggles and asking, “Why me?”, were weighing heavily on me. But, it was finally coming to an end. Somewhere down deep, I knew that I really wanted to make a change in my sleep habits; I wanted to get off the medication; I did not want to live this way for the next 40 – 50 years of my life. I wanted change! I wanted control over my nights. These thoughts became my focused, burning desires.

Part of my discovery was that this situation wasn’t so much paradise lost as much as it was paradise denied! Had my sleep been eroded by external forces outside of my control? No! Why was this state of restful sleep denied? What was the barrier? I was thunderstruck when I realized that I was the barrier. My thinking, my behavior, and my patterns were so ingrained and I didn’t even know I’d done it to myself. Ultimately, I discovered that my thinking and focus were at the core of the problem. There was no one else to blame. I was responsible for my situation; for my reality.

The Day of Awakening

Your thoughts really do become the essence of growth and change, because one day, I literally woke up and said to myself, “I’m tired of this continual negative pattern. I want to change whatever I need to in order to create a positive nighttime experience.” That was the day I stopped taking sleeping medication; that was the beginning of my journey of discovery.

Where can I go; whom can I talk to; what can I read; what could I discover? What could I do to change these horrible, debilitating nighttime habits?

Since that day of awakening, I have entered a new dimension. I discovered that I really did have control over the events of my day and night. I’d already tried acupuncture and hypnosis to help me sleep. These treatments in and of themselves, for me, were not particularly effective. I read any kind of literature and books describing the physiological processes involved with sleep and began practicing various behavioral techniques that induce relaxation. Although you cannot make sleep happen by trying, it is important to relax your mind and body with the intention of reducing stress. By introducing a sense of calm and peacefulness, you set the stage for sleep – you invite it in. Ultimately, there was nowhere else to go besides inside. I literally awoke to the reality of my discovery – that change needed to happen from within as well as from without. You need to allow sleep to happen naturally. It was more than just changing my physical behaviors (though these are major contributing factors); it was the direction of my thoughts and energy that directed and influenced the change.

The Promise of Sleep

Is the promise of a good night’s sleep just an illusion? I think not. I found I had the ability to change my sleep habits. Let my journey and discoveries be an inspiration for your awakening. Your sleep habits can change too. Your thoughts really do become the essence of your growth and change. As Mike Dooley, (Infinite Possibilities, www.tut.com) says, “Thoughts (really do) become things”. With positive thoughts, your behaviors will also change and your nighttime reality will become one of rest, bliss and rejuvenation. As you read of my challenges and struggles, you will discover beneficial techniques, processes and information that will assist in your personal growth and change toward positive sleep experiences.

The image of someone tossing and turning all night, staring aimlessly at the ceiling and feeling groggy overall is not a pretty picture. Eye bags, sallow skin and a bad attitude are all quite unattractive as well. The bottom line is that there is nothing good that can be said about insomnia. In order to change all that, you have to find a way to feel calm and comfortable, enough to fall asleep and stay that way for the entire night.

Picture yourself lying in a field somewhere, full of fresh grass and a wide variety of beautiful flowers. On a sunny, summer day you make a bed on this pillowy site, and all you can think about is how good you feel. Feeling relaxed in the warmth of the sun, you inhale every bit of goodness that surrounds you, and it fills your whole body with an innocent pleasure. The aromas that you inhale make you feel twenty years younger, and you have never felt so calm in all of your life. You think to yourself that you could sleep right here for hours. Now why couldn’t you take this feeling into your bedroom permanently?

Amidst all of the pills and hypnosis and humidifiers, there is one method of falling asleep that seems to stand out above all the rest. Aromatherapy is the best choice for people who want to teach their bodies to fall asleep gently and naturally, while feeling so good inside.

What is so great about using fragrances to fall asleep is that there is no harm, no addiction, and no gimmick. If you enjoy the scent, you will be lulled off into a deep slumber. If the scent is unpleasant, you will just need to try another one.

Aromatherapy can be such an exciting method to use in overcoming insomnia. Experimenting with the right scent for your body composition is a fun way to become in tune with yourself and what you like. Every person’s body reacts to scents in different ways, so different fragrances can produce a different response in the brain.

Part of winning the battle against insomnia is all about having the right atmosphere. From eliminating extraneous background noise to picking out a soft set of sheets to setting the right temperature in the house, a comfortable place will help to ensure that you rest easy. Once your body can feel extremely relaxed, your brain will soon follow, and you will be on your way to a night full of sweet dreams.

Using aromatherapy is done in a wide variety of ways. Sleeping mist can be gently sprayed on pillows and linens, candles can be lit safely until you are ready to fall asleep, or sachets can be placed nearby for a more mellow fragrance. Whichever way you choose to go about it, this is definitely a great technique for your body and mind. You will create a whole aura of peace and goodness that will make your insomnia a thing of the past.

Sherry Harris used to have insomnia. Now she gets a good night sleep with aromatic sleeping mist fragrances.

Having been an insomniac for literally almost all of my life, I recently reached my rope’s end and decided that I was going to start sleeping normally or die trying. That may sound like an exaggeration but if you suffer from chronic sleeplessness you know that it often makes you feel like your life isn’t even worth living. You know what I’m talking about-nights full of dread and days full of forgetfulness, inexplicable mistakes, mood swings, and generally feeling like you’re falling apart.

It seems to me that the worst part of long-term insomnia is the hopelessness it drills into you. I know that as I tried every single remedy and piece of advice known to man, all to no avail, my hopelessness became like a giant, immovable boulder that I thought I would never be able to push away. I’ve tried everything and nothing works, I thought, so I’ll just have to learn to live with this. And when I say I tried everything, I mean EVERYTHING.

Getting out of bed and doing something is the first thing everybody tells you to do. Don’t lie there all anxious, thinking about how you’re not sleeping. Fine. I’d get up and do something, and continue doing something for hours into the night, until it was so late that even though I would eventually fall asleep, it would only be three hours or so until I had to wake up, tired and stressed yet again.

Booze got me to sleep, but only to wake up a few hours later thirsty and dying to pee. From then on I’d sleep fitfully until the morning, when I’d crawl out of bed haggard, hungover and truly in worse shape than if I’d just stayed awake for most of the night.

Herbal teas made me feel warm and fuzzy inside like a patchouli-smelling hippie, but as a sleep aid they were pretty much a joke. And again there’s that having to pee in the middle of the night.

Valerian, the ancient sleep-aiding herb, worked for about two nights, then I had a near-total tolerance to it. It also smells and tastes like raw dirt and made me feel very anxious.

Over-the-counter drugs like Sominex and Tylenol PM knocked me out in no time, but they put me in such a deep artificially-induced state of sleep that waking up to my alarm the next day felt like coming out of a coma. I’d feel groggy and slightly dumb the whole day, and often get a headache mid-morning. Even worse, if I’d take them before a day off, with no alarm, I’d sleep 10 hours or more and wake up feeling like I’d just risen from the dead, with no idea which way was was up. Besides, acetaminophen, the active ingredient in most of these, can seriously damage your liver, and the last time I checked, I didn’t have a spare liver.

Melatonin may work for some people but I’ve always found that it stays in my system too long, bringing on sudden bouts of intense drowsiness at random moments of my day when I really need to be awake and aware. This may work as a short-term solution for people with occasional insomnia, but for hard cases like me it just didn’t cut it.

Prescription aids like Ambien seem like a godsend at first, and after years of not having insurance the first thing I did when I got a decent health plan was talk a doctor into getting me some of these magic pills. Everyone says that the first time they took Ambien was pretty intense, and my experience was no exception. Let me just say that it felt like falling asleep at 100 mph, and I actually felt alright the next day. “I’ve found it!” I thought, bounding joyously to the kitchen for breakfast.

As I continued taking them, however, their effectiveness wore off, until I could sometimes take one and not even fall asleep, just stay awake in a bizarre, very intoxicated dreamlike state that made me insensitive and largely unaware of what I was saying and doing. I almost lost a girlfriend once because I was such a douchebag on the phone late one night while in this state-I kept laughing and making inappropriate jokes about the funeral she had just attended! It took me two days to convince her that it had been the Ambien talking, not me.

Still, it may work for you. Remember that occasional insomnia is one thing, and if this is your problem you should perhaps experiment with the treatments listed above, but serious, chronic inability to sleep is something that may need to be attacked from an entirely different angle. I believe I’ve finally found that angle with a new technology called brainwave entrainment, which is essentially ambient music tracks that work with your brain to produce the brainwaves you need for a desired objective, whether it be deep meditation or falling asleep and staying asleep for the entire night.

You can try out some free brainwave entrainment tracks at the Healing Beats site although the quality isn’t the best. The tracks available here are binaural beats, which means you have to listen to them on headphones for them to work. This is obviously a disadvantage as wearing headphones in bed is not terribly comfortable. Also, your only option with these tracks is to play them in a QuickTime window; you can’t actually download these them to your computer. I found the meditation tracks to be quite effective but the sleep one didn’t actually get me to sleep.

A slightly higher-quality option that you will have to pay for can be found at the Unexplainable Store. This site features a variety of binaural tracks for falling asleep as well as numerous others for meditation, self-motivation, hypnosis and other common self-help and New Age themes. Prices for individual tracks typically range from $9.95 to 19.95, and packages are available. There is also an 8-week money-back guarantee, so you really have nothing to lose. The only disadvantage is that like the free tracks listed above, these are binaural tracks and must be listened to on headphones.

The most complete Brainwave Entrainment insomnia program I’ve seen-the one I decided to shell out the cash for and try- is Sleep Tracks. In addition to three high-quality CDs that you can play on your stereo or computer with no headphones needed, you’ll get access to a series of online videos that, along with the audio tracks, provide a complete sleep re-education program. A lot of the video content is tips and information we’ve all heard from doctors and well-meaning friends and relatives before but something about hearing it all delivered in a soothing, authoritative voice accompanied by soft images made it very effective. The videos completely changed my outlook on sleep and made me much more relaxed about going to bed, which had become a moment I dreaded.

And the CDs really work. I’ve never once gotten to the end of any of them without falling asleep. Of course, the idea behind this treatment is to ultimately retrain the insomniac’s brain so that even listening to the CDs isn’t necessary. I’ve been using the CDs for a week and haven’t yet tried a night without them. Look for a follow-up article in a week or so when I attempt sleeping with no help at all.

You can stop the rate of insomnia by preventive the naps less than 15 minutes during day time, adopting relaxing activity such as reading or listening to soothing music, and avoiding big meals. Psychologists who support the idea that insomnia is just a mental illness is due to the fact that over ninety percent of insomniacs can be put to deep sleep using hypnosis techniques by slowing down the brain commotion.

If those are the things that origin your problem, go after all the tips to get a good night sleep. There are a number of things that may be the reason of it. On the basis of the reason of incidence, the chronic definition is classified into primary insomnia and secondary insomnia.

Not inevitably the reason of sleeplessness is that of it. To have quick treatment, it is necessary to search out the root source of the disease first. Probably the best-known insomnia treatment is the classic glass of balmy milk.

For the treatment of medications directed toward a precise sleep-disrupting reason may also be taken into account. When the insomnia is a little more obstinate, stronger methods may be essential. Most of the clinical relief methods usually rely on a drug therapy consisting of sedatives and sleep inducers.

Chronic problems mark trouble in a sound sleep, such as abridged sleep time, many wake ups in the middle of the sleep, and day symptoms of bad temper and sleepiness. In another type of sleep disorder signs, person reacts physically to the events he has seen in dreams. It is however a sleep disorder distinct as the helplessness to sleep adequately or to have any sleeps at all.

Do cures for insomnia exist? The simple answer is YES. However, most of us are only interested in quick-fix solutions. We live in a world obsessed with quick-fix fads; fast food, microwave meals, instant weight loss pills, instant abs etc. Inevitably the sleeping pill has become the number one choice for the majority of insomniacs.

In 2004, the pharmaceutical industry made 550 Billion dollars in sales. Why are they so profitable? Because they sell the ‘dream’ the ‘quick-fix solution’ which we more than often buy into. They spend millions a year on their advertising campaigns. I’m sure your familiar with there campaigns; the adverts on TV with healthy, smiley people running around on the beach, having the time of their lives.

We are often blinded from the truth. We see these fancy adverts and think ‘I want that!’ The emotional attachment to these adverts is exactly what these big corporations want. They’re not interested in your health or your well being. Do they ever tell you about the possible adverse drug reactions? I doubt it, otherwise you would probably know about the estimated 100,000 deaths in the US each year from adverse drug reactions alone.

Every night we are exposed to more than half a dozen of these adverts. Effectively we are being brainwashed by these companies. In fact, many prescription drugs are becoming household names. But are these pharmaceutical companies providing effective cures for insomnia?

Sleeping pills are generally bad news as they will break down your body’s natural sleep cycle and make sleep very difficult in the long term. It may also affect the amount of deep sleep you attain during the night as most major sleeping pills interfere with normal brain wave patterns.

You may find that you wake up feeling groggy, drowsy or tired. Other Side effects include urinary retention, blurred vision, dizziness and palpitations. Sleeping pills may help you get to sleep but with continual use your body will build tolerance and you may find that you need to ‘up’ your dose to attain the same affect.

Sleeping pills should not be relied upon especially for the long term sufferer. Professional medical advice should always be sought before taking any new medication. You should also avoid taking them for more than 2 or 3 nights in a row, as prolonged use can cause ‘rebound’ insomnia, which is more difficult to treat.

These are the lives of real people being affected. Do you really think these big pharmaceutical companies are putting those billion of dollars in profit back into research? Do you really think that they are researching cures for insomnia?

But there is a brighter side to all of this (fortunately). There are other ways and alternatives to taking a sleeping pill to get to sleep. In fact there are far more effective ways to do deal with insomnia such as acupuncture, reflexology and hypnosis.

These alternative methods often tackle the underlying cause of insomnia rather than just the symptoms. On that fact alone, they are far more effective and healthy for you than the sleeping pill.

I hope you enjoyed this article on cures for insomnia. If you are interested in natural solutions for your insomnia then speak to you doctor about alternative practices and therapies.

Insomnia is one of the most troublesome of all sleep disorders, especially if you are exhausted all day and lay tossing and turning all night. Dealing with insomnia can make you irritable, exhausted and unable to cope with normal day to day situations. The main cure for insomnia is prescription or over the counter medications, which can leave you feeling tired and drugged the next day. Finding a way to deal with your insomnia without using medications may seem impossible, but subliminal messages can help you get the sleep you need, without using medications.

Causes of Insomnia

There are many different reasons why you may have difficulty sleeping, including stress and poor nutrition. Some people may find that an early morning run helps them sleep at night, while others find that writing their concerns down from each day helps them rest easier. For others, the only cure is to rely on medications that may stop working after a week or two, or may not help at all.

Can Subliminal Messages Help Me?

Subliminal messages have helped millions of people through the last few generations with many different personal problems, and can also help you with your insomnia. Insomnia is often caused by an inability to relax enough to go to sleep, and subliminal messages can actually program your body to sleep at the same time each night.

Even though subliminal messages can’t actually make you suddenly start sleeping despite having something to do, it can mentally prepare your mind and body for rest. Subliminal messages work as a gentle nudge in the direction you want to go in, even if all you want is a good night’s sleep.

So you are suffering from insomnia, another sleepless night and you are wondering how much more you can take before you crack. You are tired, no you are more than tired, you are completely exhausted yet you still cannot sleep. You feel like you are being punished for something you have done ‘Why can’t I sleep?!!’, ‘Why can’t I beat this insomnia?!’, ‘What’s wrong with me?!!’

You take another sleeping pill, hoping to fall asleep. You lie there awake, tormented by the clock as it ticks away any time left to sleep, any chance of being remotely energized or awake the next day. You can’t remember the last time you’ve slept well, you’ve tried all the sleep remedies but you can’t seem to overcome this problem, this nightmare, and this dreaded insomnia.

Sound familiar? It’s common knowledge that insomnia affects more than a third of all adults. Shockingly 40% of insomniacs medicate themselves to sleep. Why is this? After all it’s been proven that sleeping pills are ineffective and cause more problems in the long run. In fact, in a recent survey it was concluded by doctors that insomnia sufferers are better off without sleeping pills

So why has something so ineffective become relied upon by millions of adults? Well the answer lies within the big pharmaceutical corporations. Did you know that they make an estimated $500 billion dollars a year in sales? How many times have you seen those adverts telling you to ‘Ask your doctor’ about prescription medication? It’s a known fact that these are profit and success driven businesses. The last thing they have in mind is your health and well being, otherwise you’d probably know about the estimated 100,000 deaths a year due to adverse drug reactions alone.

So you might be thinking ‘What are the alternatives?’ Well actually there are plenty if you were to dig a little deeper. This is the issue, people see what’s in front of them and immediately take that as their first option. Unfortunately as we are bombarded by pharmaceutical advertising campaigns on a daily basis, this is the first option for many insomnia sufferers.

There are highly effective drug-free methods available to cure your insomnia. YES insomnia can be cured! And yes you can cure it without drugs. In fact the success rate of insomnia being cured by drugs is laughable it’s not even worth considering. Techniques such as hypnosis and CBT to name a few have all higher success rates than the stand alone sleeping pill. This is because they work to recondition the mind and restore natural healthy sleep.

Do you want to stop suffering from the torturous effects of insomnia? Do you want to sleep soundly like a baby and wake up feeling refreshed? These facts about insomnia can give you a better understanding of your sleep condition and help you find the appropriate insomnia cure for you. Should you already know some facts about insomnia, this insomnia article can teach you more than just the basics.

Basic Facts About Insomnia

Simply put, insomnia is the inability to fall asleep when you want to. It is characterized by little or poor-quality sleep.

There are three types of insomnia depending on the duration of the condition: 1) Transient or short-term insomnia, as the term implies, lasts only for one night to a few weeks; 2) Intermittent insomnia is short-term but recurring; 3) Chronic insomnia is the most serious as it happens at least three times a week for a month, year, or even a lifetime.

A main effect of insomnia is excessive sleepiness, which can be accompanied with restlessness, fatigue, lethargy, and irritability, among others. It can also cause problems in concentrating and focusing. The insomniac is there but not quite there. This is most common among chronic insomnia sufferers, who may find themselves in a constant state of limbo.

Insomniacs can be also more accident-prone. The cause of one out of every five highway accidents is the driver falling asleep momentarily.

In the long term, insomnia can affect relationships at home and work, hobbies, recreational activities, and general state of mind. More than just a sleep disorder, it can greatly affect quality of life; that’s why it is vital to know the facts about insomnia.

Insomnia Causes

Sleeplessness may be caused by any or a combination of the following:

7) Diet high in stimulants. Caffeine is the main culprit. Drinking too much coffee, tea, colas and eating too much chocolate, especially in the evening, can cause problems sleeping. Alcohol is also not recommended – a nightcap may induce sleepiness at first, but prevents you from going into deep sleep, or the REM state, and thus, lets you sleep less soundly.

Environmental factors. Noise, light, sudden weather changes, a room that is too hot or too cold, can disturb sleep, if not delay it.

9) Change in routine. Traveling often, sleeping in an unfamiliar bed, and a job with variable schedules are examples of routine interruptions that can cause insomnia, though short-term.

10) Stress or stressful life events. Work-related problems, relationship problems, anticipation of an upcoming event like a presentation or medical exam, and sudden life events like divorce and death of a loved one are only some examples. Anxiety related to stress may very well be the number one reason why you can’t catch a wink.

11) Medical conditions. Asthma, eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, peptic ulcer, anxiety disorders, can prevent you from falling into restful slumber.

12) Hormones. A woman suffering from menopausal symptoms like hot flushes and night sweating may have trouble sleeping. Insomnia in teenagers, meanwhile, occur mostly because of the onset of puberty, where sleeping needs and sleeping patterns usually change.

Insomnia Treatment the Natural Way

There are different insomnia treatment options, ranging from the natural insomnia herbs to the medical. Medical treatment, usually through sleeping pills, have unpleasant side effects and can ironically cause further insomnia in the long run, so therapy and natural methods are safer and more effective. Below are some examples.

6) Aromatherapy. For bouts of sleeplessness from time to time, taking a bath before going to bed using a few drops of essential oils like lavender, marjoram, or ylang-ylang can help. Or you can drop these oils directly on your pillow.

7) Flower essence therapy. White chestnut particularly helps cure insomnia gradually, usually in just a few weeks. Flower remedies can be bought in some health food stores or via mail in some websites.

Herbal therapy. Valerian is known as the best herbal treatment for insomnia, as it decreases nervous system activity. Use as per dosage instructions in the pack.

9) Relaxation therapy. This involves progressive muscle relaxation training, imagery training, hypnosis among others. This can be learned alone or with the help of a qualified practitioner. These techniques can relax your body and mind and make you feel drowsy and ready for bed.

10) Reconditioning. This method involves re-associating the bedroom and bed with sleep only. In applying this technique, activities like eating, reading, and watching TV cannot be done in bed. Napping for more than 30 to 45 minutes during the day is also discouraged. A fixed wake-up time is also scheduled to train the body.

Knowing these facts about insomnia, you and your loved ones can deal with the condition better should it come.

Sleeplessness is something that affects most of us at one time or another and as such it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. Before too long, we usually find ourselves returning to our normal sleep patterns and behaviour and things just seem to naturally fall back into place.

Yet research has found that around 30% to 50% of people report being affected by insomnia, while about 10% report suffering from chronic insomnia.

Exactly how much sleep each person needs is, of course, entirely subjective.

Some of us seem to need more and some less. But what is certain is that not everyone needs the much quoted standard 8 hours sleep. And worrying that we are not getting those full eight hours can complicate and increase sleeplessness itself.

In any discussion of insomnia, it is important to realise that it is not a diagnosis, but a symptom. If you have been experiencing sleeplessness for some time, then it really is advisable that you consult your doctor in order to eliminate any medical reason.

Once you have reassured yourself that there is no physical reason for your sleeplessness, you then have the responsibility of dealing with it.

First of all, what do we know about our body’s need for sleep?

– Sleep is as important as food – Though no-one fully understands sleep itself, what is clear is that we do need it. What isn’t quite so clear, however, is how much sleep we actually do need. Children and younger people are known to need more and, as we age, we naturally seem to find ourselves needing less sleep.

– Lack of sleep affects the appetite – The hormone which regulates hunger is called leptin. Too little sleep causes leptin levels to drop. Leptin is the hormone that tells the brain when we have had enough to eat and are full, and an insufficiency here can influence how — and how much — we eat, thereby affecting our weight.

– Affects of insufficient sleep may go unnoticed at first – Chances are that you may not notice how tired you really are. In order to compensate for serious lack of sleep, your body will automatically take 5 to 15 second micro-naps, dipping into and out of brainwave sleep. Since this can happen with the eyes open, often it happens without you realising it. Obviously, this is not the ideal state in which to be operating machinery, driving a car of doing anything that requires your full focus and attention.

Whether or not lack of sleep is cumulative seems to depend on which authority you listen to. There are those experts in sleep research who maintain that we do indeed build up a cumulative ‘sleep debt’ and there are those who firmly oppose this idea.

What few would disagree on, however, is that sleep is an individual thing, with each person having his or her own needs that alter and fluctuate in different circumstances and at varying times in the life journey.

Here are a few things you can do in order to enhance your sleep experience and get the sleep that you need:

— Remove the clock from the bedroom – Accept that you don’t truly need to be aware of the time until you need to get out of bed in the morning. Lying awake watching the clock can only complicate and add to the anxiety of sleeplessness.

– Do not watch the news – Thought-provoking documentaries, intense dramas, overly stimulating TV programmes and using the computer before going to bed are all ill-advised when it comes to falling and remaining asleep. The mind needs to be in the best position to unwind when we sleep and these will elicit exactly the opposite state.

– Manage internal dialogue – Reserve the bed for sleeping and for making love. If you find yourself going over things again and again in your mind before going to sleep, get out of bed and commit your thoughts to paper or perhaps to a tape recorder.

– Get out of bed after 25 minutes – If you are unable to fall asleep within this time, get up and do something. No point in lying there worrying. Choose a boring, repetitive task that does not stimulate the mind: loading the dishwasher, folding laundry, cleaning shoes etc. Return to bed only when tired and ready to sleep. Stay up until then.

– Try to stay awake – This strategy is called ‘paradoxical intent’: or reverse psychology and will work only if you focus on staying awake, but not on anything else. Be sure to concentrate on the task of staying awake above any other thought.

– Learn systematic relaxation or self-hypnosis – Teach yourself how to let go of stress with relaxation exercise, or better yet, by learning self-hypnosis. Invest some time here and it can be subtracted from time wasted by sleeplessness.

Research has shown that even those who believed they got little or no sleep at all, did in fact fall asleep without realising that this was the case, proving that perceptions can indeed be unreliable.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember when dealing with sleeplessness and insomnia is that inconvenient and worrying though it can be, your body and mind will find ways to cope.

Trust in this and sooner or later nature will do the rest.

IMPORTANT: This Information is not a replacement for medical advice. If you suspect that you have a sleep disorder you are advised to visit your doctor or other qualified health care professional.

Hypnosis For Insomnia

Insomnia solutions come in many shapes and sizes, but for many people hypnosis is the answer. If you suffer from insomnia, you can use self-hypnosis or go to a licensed hypnotherapist to get help with your sleep problems.

Hypnosis works by bringing your mind into a certain state of consciousness and then implanting specific messages for empowerment or change. Although hypnosis can help with sleep it is not technically a state of sleep. It is a state of altered consciousness.

Self-hypnosis can be a great tool t use if you have mild to moderate insomnia. With self-hypnosis techniques, you can train yourself to get rid of the tension and anxiety that may be keeping you up at night.

To begin your self-hypnosis session, be sure that you relax your muscles completely. Take a deep breath and hold it, then slowly exhale. Pretend to swallow something and then let your eyes roll up into your head. At this point, visualize yourself falling asleep soundly with no sleep problems. You can also repeat a word like “sleep” or “peaceful” on the exhalations. As you visualize or repeat, you’ll begin to fall asleep. Hypnosis For Insomnia

If your insomnia is serious, you may need to enlist the help of a licensed hypnotherapist. Your hypnotherapist will be able to help you remove subconscious blockages to sleep. Often times, anxiety and stress can be a cause for restless nights. The hypnotherapist can offer suggestions during a session that will remove your anxiety.

In addition to helping you solve the problem, hypnotherapy can also help you understand the reasons behind your insomnia. You may be getting stressed out about not sleeping, which can lead to a snowball effect. If this is the case, you can retrain your brain with hypnosis to get over these fears so you can sleep. Hypnosis For Insomnia

Insomnia is a very common and disturbing problem. It estimated that about 15% of the population is currently suffering from insomnia and that as much as 80% of the overall population has suffered from poor sleep quality in their life.

Besides creating tiredness and a general sense of irritability, insomnia is also responsible for considerable working days missed from the sleepless worker. Furthermore, the quality of work dispensed by a person who did not benefit from a sufficient night of sleep is non optimal.

A person suffering from insomnia should always consult her doctor to get the proper examinations and diagnosis. When a diagnosis of insomnia is made, a person should sincerely ask herself what she can do to improve her condition.

Too often people tend to “pop a pill” hoping that the magic will happen and that they will “cure” their insomnia. Studies have shown that sleeping pills do not provide the same depth of sleep that helps the mind and the body to fully recuperate. The artificially induced sleep by pills does not provide the same level and quality of sleep a healthy body requires. Furthermore, many pills have potential serious side effects and should not be taken fro a prolonged period.

There are well known substances that can affect the overall quality and quantity of sleep. Such factors that can cause insomnia or poor quality of sleep are: caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate, soft drinks and the so-called “energy drinks”), tobacco, alcohol, other stimulants, etc

It is a misconception that alcohol helps to sleep. It has a first effect as a depressant but has a rebound effect of diminishing the quality of the remaining sleep during the night.

It is a proven fact that exercising helps liberate adrenaline during the exercises and later natural endorphins, our natural “feel happy” hormones. One should exercise at least two hours before going to bed in order to benefit the most from the exercise and not be excited from the exercises thus interfering with their sleep.

Taking naps is becoming more and more common and North Americans are catching-up with this healthy habit. Naps should be short and not taken after dinner as they might interfere with the actual night of sleep.

A proper sleeping environment is a must: the room should be dark during the sleep and noise kept to a minimum. Proper lighting during the day helps to harmonize with the daily cycles. In countries where daylight is very rare (especially in winter) or for people working during night shifts, the proper lighting during the day can greatly help in achieving a good quality of sleep.

Proper hydration is very important to insure optimal body functioning, sleeping included. It is recommended to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. It is also a very good habit to start and finish your day by drinking a good glass of purifying water.

Stress can be a major contributing factor in the cause of insomnia. The good news is that stress can be controlled and overcome with the proper help. Hypnosis has been proven very efficient in numerous studies to greatly reduce the level of stress and consequently improving the quality of sleep a person feels. By allowing the person to push away all her concerns when night comes and fall into a rejuvenating sleep, hypnosis can be considered a natural and ideal solution to insomnia.

Although it’s quite common for most people to have an occasional sleepless night, lack of sleep on a regular basis can be disturbing. This is insomnia. Insomnia can leave you feeling tired and groggy throughout the day. It also causes psychological and physiological damage to the body. Before you look for a natural treatment for insomnia, consult a doctor. Sometimes, insomnia can be a symptom of another condition, like sleep apnea, lung disease, hot flashes or diabetes. When these underlying ailments are treated, insomnia may disappear too. Some natural remedies include:

Changes in lifestyle:

A major part of the food we eat is made up of toxins, which cause imbalance in the body. This acid-alkaline imbalance directly leads to insomnia in some people. Margarine, and other hydrogenated fats, refined table salt, mono sodium glutamate, sugar, chocolate, corn syrup, refined oils, baking powder, junk food, fried food, soft drinks and alcohol are all toxins. Replace these with natural foods. Vegetables and fruits contain a lot of fiber and natural enzymes that will balance the acid-alkaline ratio in the body. Fruit juices are not as good as the fruits themselves though. Avoid adding sugar to juices.

In women, insomnia is a common occurrence at the time of menopause. This may be due to the reduced levels of estrogen. Estrogen is needed by the body to absorb magnesium. Magnesium is an important nutrient that helps to relax muscles. A reduction in estrogen levels can directly cause insomnia, heart palpitations, and fibromyalgia. Magnesium-rich vegetables and fruits will help combat this problem.

Avoid stimulants during the day. Caffeine in coffee has the ability to stimulate the brain and reduce sleep. Some people can suffer from insomnia even if they have had only a single cup of coffee during the day.

Drink lots of water, as water helps to detoxify the body and flush toxins from the body.

Exercise:

Sensible exercise will help increase blood circulation and give you a pleasant feeling of being tired. But, do not over-exercise. High exercise combined with a low-fat diet can cause insomnia. Excessive exercise leads to tightening of muscles and this makes sleep difficult.

Yoga:

Yogic exercises help to improve the quality of sleep. The practice of certain postures increases blood circulation to the sleep centers in the brain, thus normalizing the sleep cycle. Deep breathing allows more oxygen into the body and clears the mind.

Tai Chi:

Originated in China as one of the martial arts, Tai Chi combines elements of workout, meditation and dance. It focuses on controlled breathing, concentration and relaxation of muscles. Over a six-month period Tai Chi can improve sleep quality and lessen insomnia.

Relaxation techniques:

Do not watch horror or crime movies just before you get to bed. Practicing a relaxation technique in bed will help induce sleep by calming the mind and relaxing the muscles. The relaxation technique does not aim to bring sleep; rather its aim is to achieve complete relaxation. Sleep will then be a natural by-product.

Reiki:

Reiki is applied via the hands of the practitioner. The practitioner simply places his or her hands on the corresponding organs of the body to facilitate healing. This results in a deeply relaxing experience. Reiki is an excellent technique for stress management. It is a self-empowering and holistic healing process.

Self-hypnosis:

Self-hypnosis consists of learning certain relaxation techniques that allow access to the subconscious mind. By using suggestions, one can persuade the subconscious mind to conquer insomnia. Many times, it is the mind’s fixation with sleeplessness that leads to insomnia.

Insomnia can be treated naturally, without taking any medication. However, a firm faith in the process is absolutely necessary.

Self-hypnosis can provide the necessary child insomnia help that can guide the young to a restful night’s sleep. Children’s imaginative minds are prone to creativity and this makes hypnotic exercises very viable solutions to the insomniac condition. Kids can achieve great results with family support.

Child Self Confidence

You may be surprised that there is a deep connection between insomniac conditions and self-esteem. A young person might have difficulty falling asleep when is unsure of himself and when he is filled with anxiousness. Low self-esteem can significantly interfere with children’s ability to get the proper rest.

Hypnosis is a valuable tool for helping young people to develop the confidence they need in order to achieve excellent results. This approach involves visualization techniques that children love to exercise, making the process of relieving insomnia in children pleasurable.

Child Insomnia Help

You can find assistance in the form of hypnosis recordings available in CDs and in MP3. This is a great strategy because you don’t have to take your child to a special appointment at a hypnotherapy clinic. A young person has a better chance of adopting the suggestions for restful sleep in the comfort of her own bed.

This approach is superior to using medication as an intervention to promote sleep. Young people have different reactions to different medications and sleeping pills are simply too difficult to use as an intervention because the side effects can be worse than the insomnia.

Rehabilitation

Changing habits is of the utmost importance in this endeavor because children respond extremely well to routine. When you make the necessary changes in routine, creating a consistent bedtime ritual, you little one will respond seamlessly.

Creating a simply nightly routine that consists of a consistent pattern is a great approach that can be supported by hypnosis. The young person is apt to adopt the new habits easier when reinforced in the subconscious mind. This is because this is the habit center of the brain.

An example of a nightly routine involves specific activities. The child knows that she has a bath, followed by tooth-brushing, a book and bedtime. This comfortable routine becomes second nature and a calming reinforcement for your nightly routine.

Hypnosis Recordings

Finding the right recording for your child’s needs can be challenging considering the many different options available. Following are some quick ideas to get you started.

Kathy Welter-Nichols has created an excellent composition that can be found here – Child Insomnia Help.

With increased awareness in the media and health food circles, alternative approaches to healing are growing, which includes alternative insomnia medicine. One such therapy for insomnia is the use of valerian root. Valerian root is an herb which has been used extensively throughout the ages as a calming and relaxing herb. It is often referred to as “nature’s Valium” for its sedative qualities. Another alternative insomnia medicine is melatonin. Melatonin also helps to induce sleep.

Homeopathic Remedies for Insomnia

The world of homeopathic treatment offers many alternative solutions for a full gamut of diseases, ailments, and sicknesses, including insomnia. Aconitum apellus is a remedy specified for someone who has panic attacks associated with insomnia. This homeopathic remedy for insomnia helps to calm and soothe the fears that occur shortly before falling asleep. Ignatia is another homeopathic remedy which is supposed to help a person struggling with insomnia because of an emotional struggle such as grieving the loss of a loved one. Calcarea Phosphorica lessens the joint pains in adults and growing pains in children. Various supplements of calcium and magnesium also help to calm the nervous system and are recommended to take at bedtime to help sleep to come.

Herbal Treatment for Insomnia – It Can Be Treated Naturally

There are plenty of the over-the-counter medicines that can successfully treat this disease. Nonetheless, a good majority of people still prefer to go for the herbal treatment for insomnia because they feel it has fewer side effects. Some of the common (read traditional) herbal treatments for insomnia will include remedies with plants such as passion flower, valerian root, Californian poppy seeds, dog wood, and so on.

Home Remedies for Insomnia

Self help is the best help. You could be your own doctor whereby you may get relief much faster.

Home Insomnia Cure No. 1 – When you find that you cannot sleep, the first step should be to try and relax. You will never be able to do this on the bed, because your inability to fall asleep will irritate you further and aggravate your condition. Hence, if you stayed more than 30 minutes in bed and you find that sleep evades you, get up from the bed and do something that relaxes you. Have a hot cup of chamomile tea, read a favorite bestseller, have a hot mug of milk and generally try to relax. You will find that in no time, you will feel sleepy.

Home Insomnia Cures No. 2 – Reading has always been a great relaxing technique. However, not all type of reading will be helpful to you. Avoid any such topics that would excite you further, such as ghost stories, sexual fantasy stories, or puzzles. The best would be to read something that is pleasant yet simple – such as a magazine, newspaper, comic books, or a favorite bestseller.

Home Insomnia Cures No 3 – immerse yourself in hot water and a long drawn bath. You could use aromatic oils before or after the bath, and or aromatic candles to create a relaxing and pleasing atmosphere all around you.

Home insomnia cures No 4 – listening to music might help as well. This could work best while or after taking the hot water bath, though it is okay when used singly also. As is the case of the books, you should choose music that is soothing and soft so it can relax you and induce sleep.

Behavioral Therapy

Self-hypnosis and auto-suggestion methods work pretty well. You will need to master the art of self-hypnosis from a professional. You will also find certain specific exercises (such as yoga) that promote sleep in the long run – if you prefer to have only natural means to treat this disease. This type of treatment is also called behavioral therapy and it is normally applied singly or in combination with other types of treatments, depending on the response of the person to the medicines, sleep therapies and so on.

Often all it needs to cure insomnia is a simple change of life-style habits and a few stringent and serious measures which influence sleep:

1. Avoid any caffeine in any form at least four hours before sleep; preferably you should eliminate it totally from your diet.

2. Avoid alcohol intake of any kind.

3. Avoid having your meals too late at night (allow at least four hours between the last meal and your bed time).

Natural Sleeping Remedies

One of the most common insomnia solutions is drinking milk before you go to bed. Drinking a warm glass of milk has been proven to be effective insomnia solution throughout the years. Another very practical insomnia solution is exercise. Simple physical exercises performed a few hours before going to sleep can be a good insomnia solution. Yoga exercise is very calming that even if you had a very busy day, all your stress will be gone when you do yoga exercises. Sleeping at regular hours can cure insomnia.
