<p>Most people do not understand what hypnosis really is and therefore cannot appreciate how vital its use can be in taking control of your pregnancy and well being.  Hypnosis is normal and natural and is finally becoming recognized in the medical profession as an extremely valuable tool to assist in many areas of health, not just in pregnancy and childbirth.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the Jenkins and Pritchard study referred to above, not only was delivery time dramatically reduced, significantly less pain medication was administered.  They also found that the incidence of postpartum depression was reduced and the incidence of spontaneous deliveries was increased. All this of course, is better for mother and child, and also the medical personnel dealing with mother and child.  In the Omer study mentioned above the birth weight of the babies was significantly greater than in a control group.  Again, this is much better for the baby.</p>

<p>Hypnosis is also known to be a natural aid to increasing your chances of conception.  This makes very good sense as hypnosis is a state of relaxation and reduces stress which is known to be a barrier to getting pregnant.  It is also quite logical that the more relaxed you are during pregnancy the more comfortable and relaxed your baby is as well.  Once again, medical research supports this phenomenon. Mothers using self hypnosis to reduce stress and anxiety whilst pregnant had fetuses that moved more actively than those who didn&#8217;t. (Zimmer, Perets, Eyal and Fuchs).</p>

<p>Cigarette smoking is an expensive, potentially dangerous, and more and more socially unacceptable form of stress management that millions of people try to quit each year for these, and other, reasons. Besides the fact that smoking is expensive and potentially deadly, cigarette smokers also have to deal with smelly clothes, bad breath, stained teeth, and a car/home/work environment that smells like smoke and ash trays. Smokers often start wildfires by tossing their still-burning cigarette butts out of their car windows; and occasionally die in house they accidentally set with carelessness &#8211; and a lit cigarette. There are obviously many reasons to quit smoking; but, traditionally, quitting smoking is not an easy task. Having helped many people quit smoking, using a variety of methods, I can safely say there are many ways that will work; but there are two that have proven themselves to be highly effective, safe, quick, easy, and affordable &#8211; Hypnosis and EFT.</p>

<p>Next to simply quitting &#8220;cold-turkey,&#8221; hypnosis is probably the most common method used for smoking cessation; and it has been effectively used for thousands of years to help people overcome problems and habits &#8211; and the underlying mental and emotional triggers that cause the smoking in the first place. There are many ways to use hypnosis to quit smoking. A hypnotherapist could help you uncover and/or release the underlying perceptions causing you to experience the stress and anxiety you have thus far been using cigarettes to calm; or, a hypnotherapist could focus on helping you establish different behaviors or habits &#8211; a non-smoking habit, for instance. Hypnosis for smoking cessation is typically done in anywhere from one-session to six, or more, sessions &#8211; depending on the client and the particular approach used by the therapist. But hypnosis can also be done at home, by your self &#8211; self-hypnosis &#8211; or by using hypnosis tapes or C.D.&#8217;s. (Never listen to ANY hypnosis C.D.&#8217;s in your car, or while operating any vehicle or machinery!) <p>The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is another method, or technique, that is commonly used to help people stop smoking. I actually prefer EFT to hypnosis for two reasons: First, it can be much, much quicker (which is an important factor in a clinical practice); and, Second, EFT is quick, easy, essentially free, and can be used by anyone, anywhere &#8211; even in a moving vehicle. Where hypnosis works by essentially &#8220;recording&#8221; new behavioral programs into the memory; EFT works by breaking the connection between the problematic, stress-thoughts and the behaviors or expressions those thoughts cause. In other words, it can help you put out your own fires before the stress needs to be managed by some behavior that you&#8217;ve found to be effective in the past, like smoking, for example. Besides being effective at modifying behavioral impulses, EFT can be used to eliminate the stress in your life that causes the feelings you seek to cover-up, or sedate, with the chemicals in cigarette smoke. No stress equals no need for stress management; and that&#8217;s essentially all cigarettes are &#8211; a potentially dangerous form of stress management. The good news with EFT is that, once the basic technique is learned (which only takes a few minutes), EFT can be used on any problem or condition with remarkable results. <strong></strong><strong><a rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" href="http://hypnosis-info.info/gs/Eft_Hypnosis/1214/3"><strong>Eft Hypnosis</strong></a></strong></p>

No one feels the same, enters the hypnotic state the same or benefits from the same scripting.  Individuals must find a comfortable self hypnosis technique in order to obtain the maximum benefit of hypnosis. </p>

One of the most important parts of hypnosis is the pre-planning and determination of the reasons for entering into hypnosis.  Most individuals are well aware of their reasons for self hypnosis. A habit, fear, or pain management may be the underlying problem you are trying to solve.</p>

The self hypnosis technique for some individuals may include a comfortable seat in the house. Imaging a peaceful scene with full visualization of the environment of the hypnotic state. Everyone is different and they should experiment to find the method that works the best for them.  You may need to try different places, relaxation techniques and even sitting arrangements, before you find the perfect method.</p>

For example, if over eating is what you are aiming to change, you can suggests under hypnosis that instead of craving chocolate you will crave a fruit or some other nutritious food. Once relaxed imagine a staircase and begin walking the staircase until you have reached the number ten stair. Counting as you go and telling yourself that as you walk the staircase you are going deeper and deeper into hypnosis.  Once you have made it to the tenth stair you will then tell yourself that you are in hypnosis. </p>

At this point you can explore your surroundings, how does it feel, hot or cold, wind, smell and other physical attributes of your environment. At this point you can then rehearse the positive scripting into your mind. Remember you are highly suggestible at this time so what you change your scripting to will be your new thoughts.  </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
When you have completed your self hypnosis session you will begin up the stairs counting backwards from the tenth stair.  As you climb the stairs tell yourself you are coming up from hypnosis and will awake with a feeling of wellness. Once you have made your way up the staircase then tell yourself to open your eyes and return to the normal awake state.</p>

Some people only smoke socially; some only smoke in the evenings, some smoke 20 a day, some 50, and so on. Each person&#8217;s expectation about how easy or how difficult it may be to stop tends however to be on more similar lines. Most people look upon the final act of quitting smoking with about as much fondness as the prospect of having their leg amputated!</p>
<p>Thoughts tend to run along the lines of &#8220;how will I cope?&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;ll put on 20 pounds in weight&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;m going to be really grumpy&#8221;, etc, etc. Thinking like this definitely does not help matters. You are creating an expectation that it will be very difficult and extremely uncomfortable. You are creating an expectation of weight gain, bad temper and failure. The thing is, what you expect to happen, does indeed happen. Such is the power of your own mind. This is why you have to get your mind around stopping smoking to pave the way to success and long term freedom from the weed.</p>
<p><span id="more-1076"></span></p>
<p>You can feel a bit hungry, you can feel pretty stressed. This can last up to three weeks if you go cold turkey. BUT if you get your mind around the subject of stopping smoking you do not need to suffer this discomfort; you do not need to be subjected to an inner battle of wills inside your psyche. You can use hypnosis to access the inner workings of your mind, to access your subconscious mind, the part where deep-rooted habits and beliefs are stored. Smoking is a habit, and its various patterns, associations and behaviors are wired into your subconscious mind. You more often have a cigarette in hand before you even think about it, than consciously think, &#8220;oh, I fancy a cigarette now&#8221;.</p>
<p>With hypnosis you can learn to relax and change state and this is a great mental skill to acquire if you are worried about being a ratty so-and-so! With hypnosis you can learn to distract yourself from cravings and this too is a rather useful mental skill in the process of stopping smoking. Just imagine how much easier it will be to quit smoking if you no longer suffer from cravings&#8230;You can, with the help of hypnosis, effectively zap ANY cravings you might otherwise have had. Hypnosis, in short, can provide you with the inner steel to quit as it guides you to think in a different way, both consciously and subconsciously.</p>
<p>Wouldn&#8217;t it feel nice if you didn&#8217;t have to avoid smokers or social occasions? This too, can be achieved with the correct use of hypnotic suggestion. If you thought that you would not be affected by other people who are still smoking and so could mix with them comfortably, would that make stopping smoking a little easier as well? <p>Step 2 &#8211; When you are ready to stop, you do it, there are then. Now it&#8217;s time to be guided by hypnotic suggestions which turn your desire to stop into immediate action. Now you learn to think as a non-smoker, not as a smoker who is attempting to quit.</p>
<p>Step 3 &#8211; Reinforcement is the name of the game. Learning to enjoy being a non-smoker and appreciate the benefits is the key here.
