Is there really any actual proof hypnosis can make a difference for those suffering from bipolar/insomnia?

I’ve heard good and bad things about this. I don’t know what to think as there are “Licensed Hypnotherapists” so does that mean it works? Or do you think it does?

It works for some more than others. It depends how open to suggestion the person is. It is not shown to be effective with Bipolar Disorder (at least from the evidence that I’ve seen). It can help with insomnia.
I’ve got a tape that if I put it on before going to bed, I fall asleep within a few minutes nearly every time. It’s a long series of suggestions or affirmations. But I’ve never heard of this being effective for mania. I should think breath exercises might serve better in that case.
Hypnosis is pretty much a fad with everything else, but some people have said it works for things like giving up smoking, which is to do with a will power, a way of thinking.
However, bipolar is caused by a chemical inbalance in the brain, which is genetics and you can’t change by any kind of therarpy, let alone hypnosis. The choice to go without cigarettes despite physical addiction isn’t genetics.
Hypnosis has very individual results. You would have to try to know for yourself. But don’t forget that sleep is the most important symptom to treat for any diagnosis. If you don’t sleep well everything is worse. Also consider that 80% of people diagnosed with bipolar also have ADHD to some degree. If you have a hyperactive brain that does not allow you to fall asleep or stay asleep then treating the ADHD would be essential. Associated insomnia symptoms would include constant thought or worries when trying to fall asleep, moving around in your sleep, kicking off he covers, dreaming a lot, talking in your sleep, a history of walking in you sleep, etc. Take the “adult checklist” located at http://www.addresources.org with someone that knows you well. Yeah there is some. It’s just that most people claiming to be hypnotists no nothing about it. And what they do know is ineffective.
