Good medication for social anxiety that really works with out leaving you tired during the day?
Whats a good medication to take to completely cure you of social anxiety? That will not make you drowsy during the day. And that acutally works. The one I currently take makes me tired and I still feel nervous in social settings. It also makes me sweat really bad. Which can be embarrassing. I currently take Alprazolam 1.25mg, and I’ve also tried Paxil doesn’t work for me. One of my customers tried hypnosis and she said it worked really well for her. What do you think?

Nothing works for me I have taken it all and I always have some sort of side effect liek gaining weight or no desire for sex so finally i gave up on meds and am ok actually!
So you take xanax. Unfortunately, the only thing that ever worked for me was xanax. It’s very addictive, though and I got hooked fast. And yes, it does make you sleepy. That’s a rather large dose you take though. Have you considered cutting it down? Then you may be able to take the edge off without getting drowsy. I have heard from others that celexa and lexapro are pretty good for generalized anxiety and possibly cymbalta. I hope you can get some answers from someone here, though. I would seriously consider asking your doc about the other antidepressants I mentioned.
Every med has side effects. You can ask your MD for a benzo like klonopin, but even then… you really need a cognitive-behaviorist to work with you, or you will end up a (barely) walking zombie. The meds just aren’t that good for this problem.– Sorry. But therapy (specificly cog-beh) is very effective if you do the homework.
I’ve tried many antidepressants to help my anxiety disorder, but the only one I’ve found to work for me is Paxil. I’ve also been taking Xanax when needed but the Paxil keeps me from having panic attacks on a day to day basis. All medication will make you sleepy in the beginning, once your body adjusts to the medication (2-4 weeks) you will begin to feel better about the side effects.
All people are different in what they can tolerate and what works for you may not work for the next person. I recommend you talk to a psychologist (not a psychiatrist) and they can try different medications for you. Lexapro is supposedly one of the best for social anxiety although it didn’t work for me, it may work for you.
Lexapro (will make you tired for the fisrst week or so) 20mg
Buspar 15mg twice a day
This is what I take and it has worked fairly well for me
Good luck
klonopin works wonderfully for me…
