Do you think Wonder Woman is a suitable role model for me?
William Moulton Marston created the character Wonder Woman in 1941.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Woman
In a 1943 issue of The American Scholar, Marston wrote:
“Not even girls want to be girls so long as our feminine archetype lacks force, strength, and power. Not wanting to be girls, they don’t want to be tender, submissive, peace-loving as good women are. Women’s strong qualities have become despised because of their weakness. The obvious remedy is to create a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus all the allure of a good and beautiful woman.”
These are some of Wonder Woman’s abilities/skills:
* Super strength, speed, reflexes, stamina, durability, and hearing
* Flight
* Superior hand-to-hand and weapons combat skills
* Animal empathy
* Regeneration
* Resistance to magic
* Immunity to illusions, hypnosis and mind control
* Ability to discern truth
* Access to magical weaponry.
How many of these skills do you think I can acquire?
It would be nice to own a lasso of truth. People are far too politically correct these days and rarely ever say what they mean. My lasso of truth could change that. Think of the possibilities.

no, role models have to be real
I think she is a pretty good role model just not the way she dresses.
i think its a good role model to have
i prefer my mom personally.
or some one real ya know ?
No but she is a suitable character for you to dress up as at halloween
In my spare time I’m a Master Wizard. Shhhh…
Yeah if you want her to be.
Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with a fictional role model, one of mine is Spider-man.
Do you mean the 1940′s Wonder Woman or the Modern Wonder Woman? The original Wonder Woman couldn’t fly without her invisible plane, but the modern one can fly like Superman.
Also, the original one came from an island of women who all hated men.
You can acquire them all. And if popular culture is any barometer, you can be Sarah Connor and fight the terminator, or Angelina Jolie saving the world, or that warrior princess. But Jessica Lynch proved that these are fairy tales and these images brainwash females into a sense of strength they will never possess.
1. Yes, go to a gym.
2. No, you’ll need a jet.
3. Yes, join the army.
4. Yes, most people have that.
5. Yes if someone invents it.
6. yes, magic is just technology that we don’t understand, and upon understanding that technology we can invent something to counter it.
7. Same as 6.
8. Same as 5.
9. Same as 5.
So you want to be Superman with a wonder bra?
I have always found a problem with superhero role-models, and I was a big Superman fan when I was a kid too. The Richard Donner film (the original) and the comic basically portray a Polly Pureheart with testicles, which means they basically ‘neuter’ Superman in order to be able to make him live among the humans who supposedly have adopted him.
Because, what affect would it have on others if a person, who is beyond the bonds of social and legal recourse, decided to live among them? We get freaked out if a ‘black’ person or a ‘white’ person moves somewhere outside of their own neighborhood, or a ‘man’ or a ‘woman’ crosses some sort of agreed gender boundary, and people think that having someone like a Superman living on the same planet would be a good thing?
The movie Hancock is basically an examination of ‘what if Superman wasn’t so Polly Pureheart.’ Suppose they’re neurotic, suppose they have insecurities and whatnot, despite all that power and possibility given to them? Superheroes and their villians live in polar proximity to one another. That is why every superhero has a ‘villian’ externalized for them. Because it isn’t if Spiderman can save the world from Dr. Octopus, the question is if Spiderman can save the world from himself, each and every day, and what happens to the world if Spiderman or Superman ends up just as ‘human’ and fallible as the rest of us.
Wanting power is where villians and superheroes begin their journey, and thinking that one will end up being Superman instead of Lex Luthor, or Jean Grey instead of the Phoenix, is also the first step toward the ‘dark side’.
You don’t have to be Wonder Woman to have an ‘immunity to illusions, hypnosis and mind control’ or to develop an ‘ability to discern truth.’ But you aren’t going to get it if you think that super-speed or reflexes, super strength or exceptional combat skills is going to make your choices any better. How many atheletes would you consider role-models equivalent to Wonder Woman?
There is a reason why George Lucas had Luke Skywalker kill Darth Vader, only to see his own face, in the dream sequence of The Return of the Jedi. Wonder Woman needs to use the lasso of truth on herself before she can use it on others.
Hhahaa witty answer.
But usually role models are real…
:]
Good Try though.
Strong girl who likes ropes….hmmm….
Actually, I get along with animals pretty good, too.
Truth is subjective, according to the beliefs and experiences of the person believing something to be a “truth”.
Look at terrorists and Obamabots, for instance.
You have already shown your resistance to mind control, during this past election campaign.
Regeneration…that would be cool….
Hand and weapons skills…been there, done that…crappy t-shirt…
Flight..I think you are on to something there, wanna fly to Japan?
Super strength is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Aycora, you make a great role model yourself. You don’t need to follow someone else’s drum. You probably have many young women looking up to you now!
No. Not a real person.
Well, actually Aycora, I think you would make a good role model for Wonder Woman…seriously.
She still has nothing on SUPERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, young Grasshopper, you can learn all these things. But be careful with those magical weapons: you might poke an eye out…
Wonder Woman would be a perfect role model.. the most powerful strength is within.. i mean if wonder woman ever got dumped or cheated on .. i feel sorri for that guy.. but not onli cuz she can beat him up.. but because she’d be strong about it .. and for a male to say this.. females if they chose to be .. cud be the most powerful creature on the face of the planet .. they just have to make the right decisions and choices in life .. Woman are beautiful in and out the whole soft and delicate makes me crave them but also beign strong inside and not taking anyones Crap is the most sexiest thing in a woman.. don’t take anyones word for it.. be yourself.. be confident because theres only ONE of you .. no one else in this world is exactly like you .. your different.. your one and onli in this world.. so be urself .. you don’t need wonder woman as a role model.. you are a woman full of wonders.. just bring it out.. don’t let anyone put you down .. be..STRONG
