I&#8217;ve been doing a <a href="http://hypnosis-info.info">self hypnosis weight loss</a> tape for the past couple of weeks. The tape takes you through the steps to get into the relaxed state and then talks about eating less and how good it feels to lose weight and even goes into some situations like shopping for food. While I do notice that I eat less and eat better, I also feel really depressed and it seems like my body aches in my joints. Granted I realize that my body could be adjusting to the change in diet but I also wonder if for some reason my subconscious might be &#8220;fighting back&#8221; for lack of a better term. That maybe there is a deeper coping method with the food and my mind doesn&#8217;t really want to deal with it. Does that make sense?</p>

<p><i>Answer by watervox</i><br />First of all, have you seen a doctor for the depression and body aches? That&#8217;s the first thing to check, to make sure there is not a physiological reason for these things. If there is nothing out of whack physiologically &#8212; no problem with thyroid or some chemical imbalance or arthritis or the like &#8212; you may want to look a bit deeper, with some personalized sessions with a hypnotherapist, to discover if there is something important the body is trying to tell you. The pain and depression you speak of might just be something inside that needs to be addressed. And it does not necessarily have to be some deep, dark thing &#8212; it may just be a misunderstanding or it may be time to alter a long-term mindset that does not suit you in the present time.</p>
<p> How wonderful that you are getting help from your powerful mind, using hypnosis! Good for you! I&#8217;m sure you have noticed the subtle and powerful way it helps you do what you want to do. As a Certified Hypnotherapist, I can report that a number of people who see me for weight management seem to also have some other sort of &#8216;weight&#8217; to attend to &#8212; it&#8217;s almost as if the physical weight may be a metaphorical representation or expression of the other weight. And sometimes, people feed themselves food, instead of what they are really hungry for&#8230;they use eating as a sort of coping strategy, as you suspected. The person may be hungry for company, comfort or spiritual fulfillment, exercise or adventure or love. There are many things that people are hungry for, and unfortunately, food is very easy to access, and gives some sort of immediate gratification, even if it does not fulfill the true need/hunger.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s so interesting how the body takes it&#8217;s cues from the mind. When I work with a client on weight management, we address many aspects of the project, and we do it with a range of processes, modalities, and tools beyond the very helpful hypnotic suggestions. There are many ways of additionally supporting such a project outside the actual state of therapeutic hypnosis. And when I work with a client, I listen closely, and tailor the work to the individual. We may do some profound work in hypnosis, and discover ways of making the person&#8217;s life better than it&#8217;s ever been before. We make up success out of all we do.</p>
<p>I&#8217;d say, if you are experiencing physical and psychological discomfort, you definitely want to look into that further, beginning with a trip to your doctor. I have tried Adkins Diet, Slim Fast Diet Dexatrim Diet pills and still do not loose weight. When I tried Diet pills I took one and slept for 3 days thankfully I was off work at the time. I was so sleepy and droggy. My husband had to take me to the emergency room after taking one pill. And the Doctor there told me there was something in it I was allergic to. To not every take them again. It dropped my blood pressure so bad they almost had to admit me. I am at about 280 or more. I know I need to loose weight. I do Not eat that much in a day. But I gain weight  seems like just by smelling food. In a day I have 2 cups of Coffe with Cream and 2 tsp Sugar. A small bowl of Cereal. At about 6 am. Then about 8 a.m. I get a 20 ounce bottle of Green Tea. It lasts me until usually 11 then I eat 2 slices cucumbers and get a 16 ounce glass of Regular Tea. At 2 in the afternoon I eat a popcicle with my grandkids. Or a Peanut Butter Sandwich. And around 6 we eat Dinne. A piece of Baked meat cooked in Water. And a Baked potato with a tbs of Lights Shed Spread Butter. And green Beans or Carrots. And I drink a 20 ounce Bottle of Water with Supper. Then we walk to the garden and come back. Then about 8 we go to bed. But I have degenerative Disc disease and degenerative Bone disease. I fractured my foot 2 weeks ago just stepping off the porch. And my hips are going out from all the weight I have on them. So I know I need to loose weight But it just refuses to leave. I have put on 150 pounds in the past 28 years. I know I&#8217;M FAT. But with all the health problem I have I can&#8217;t walk very far before my hips lock up and then I have trouble even standing up. SO I have to limit me exercise. I am by my self most days. Because my husband puts in 14 to 16 hour days and is to tired to do much when he comes home. And have NO Money to join a GYM. I am scared of the water so I do not Swim.<br />
I refuse to take Drugs to cause me to loose weight. I have a low tolerance to Medications. And I have Acid Reflux, Hyattle Hernia, Had to have my gall bladder removed after using Slim Fast, Have Fibrmyalgia, and Degenerative Spinal Disc disease I know I need to loose weight But just can&#8217;t</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Can hypnosis help you control your weight or is it just a parlor game? If you are like most people, the first thought you have when you hear the word hypnosis is that of a magician making someone bark like a dog.</p>
<p>The word &#8220;hypnosis&#8221; is derived from the Greek word hypnos, which means sleep, although hypnosis is not a state of sleep. Hypnosis is in no way a new practice.  Stone carvings of sleep temples have been found dating back as far as 1000 B.C.</p>
<p><span id="more-1758"></span></p>
<p>Hypnosis is nothing other than an altered state of consciousness in which a person is guided with suggestions.  No, the hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you do not want to do.  You must understand that all of hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The only way you can be hypnotized is if you are willing to be. </p>
<p>The hypnotherapist does not take control over you. You are in control at all times. When you&#8217;re in a hypnotic state, no matter how deep, and given a suggestion that would be against your will, morality or religious beliefs, you would do one of two things. You would either reject the suggestion and let it go or come completely out of the hypnotic state and challenge the hypnotherapist. The hypnotherapist cannot force you to do anything against your will. You must want to do it.</p>
<p>Hypnosis, in the 21st century, is more widely used by those in the healing professions, such as doctors, dentists, psychologists, chaplains, pastors and social workers.</p>
<p>Now, when it comes to weight loss, you know the drill -to lose weight eat less and exercise more. Burn more calories than you take in and you will lose weight. You have heard this a thousand times.</p>
<p>But is this what you really want to know?  Of course not, your real question is &#8220;How do I actually make myself eat less and exercise more?&#8221;</p>
<p>By wanting to – sounds simple doesn&#8217;t it.  But did you know that if you have resistance from your subconscious mind you cannot control your conscious desires?</p>
<p>No matter how much will power you have or how much you really want to lose weight, if your subconscious mind is not on board, you will not be able to lose weight. Control your subconscious mind and you will lose that weight.  By learning how to control your feelings, then you can control your behavior.</p>
<p>You see, when it comes to your preservation, protection or procreation, your subconscious mind may have its own ideas that don&#8217;t support your conscious ideas.  When this happens, you are unable to achieve your desired result, no matter how determined you may be.</p>
<p>Proof?  Well, for one thing, you would not be overweight – you would just decide to lose weight and keep it off – right?</p>
<p>Now, how do you get your subconscious mind to change its thinking? How can we control our feelings and change our behavior?  Self-hypnosis.  </p>
<p>Remember, as stated above, the hypnotherapist cannot make you do something you do not want to do. With the correct application of self-hypnosis, you can take control of your weight where every other approach failed. </p>
<p>You see willpower, which is  your attempt to consciously control your subconscious just will not work.  By the use of self-hypnosis, you can change your subconscious mind, bring it into agreement with your conscious desires and achieve your weight loss goals easily – just as easily as it was to gain weight.</p>
<p>Once you take control of your attitudes and feelings, a whole new world opens to you. So many problems we experience in life are self-reinforcing cycles. Addictions (smoking, drinking), relationship problems (arguing, fighting), success and failure procrastination, lack of confidence) and more are all behavioral responses buttressed by emotions and subconscious attitudes. </p>
<p>So, is hypnosis a parlor trick or a legitimate treatment?  If you want to lose weight, stop smoking, etc., then hypnosis will work – if you don&#8217;t it will not.  A parlor trick?  Only if you want it to be – you see, you are in control of your mind, hypnosis just helps you reach your subconscious mind to get it on the same page as your conscious.  But only if you want it!  </p>
<p>Hypnosis changes the subconscious mind, brings it into agreement with your conscious desires. Once you are subconsciously motivated to lose weight and keep it off,you will. </p>

<p>The escalation of obesity rates in this country has sparked a flurry of activity among both serious researchers and charlatans to discover the perfect weight loss method. A recent study of four diets revealed that the key to weight loss success isn&#8217;t the diet, but how closely you follow it. Investigators from Tufts-New England Medical Center (Journal of the American Medical Association, January 2005) have determined in a study of four popular diets that the key to successful weight loss is not the diet itself, but actually following the diet. In this one-year study of 160 overweight adults, the researchers split people into four diet groups:</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p><span id="more-1749"></span></p>
<p>·         Weight Watchers (low calorie)</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>·         The Zone Diet (low glycemic index)</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>·         The Ornish Diet (low fat)</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>·         The Atkins Diet (low carb)</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The conclusion of the investigation was that all of these diets worked when the participants in the study followed them. The problem is that less than one in four were able to stay on their given diet for just this one year.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>It should be noted that the hardest diet to follow was Atkins, followed by the Ornish Diet, but according to the authors of the study, &#8220;no single diet produced satisfactory adherence rates.&#8221; Hypnosis has been recognized as a both a method for helping people to adhere to their diets, and for re-training the mind to &#8220;think&#8221; like a lean person, in order to be able to give up dieting completely and to develop healthy eating habits that parallel the eating habits of lean people.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>That being said, wild and exaggerated claims abound regarding hypnosis as it one of the more appealing methods dangled before the eyes of those who are hungry for a seemingly easy solution to a complex problem.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>A careful review of the scientific literatures exposes many of the claims about weight loss through hypnosis on the internet as overly optimistic at best and openly fraudulent at worst.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Considerable controversy swirls around the mechanisms by which hypnosis actually contributes to weight loss. Leon (1976) suggested that hypnosis can help obese people team new healthier eating patterns and retain them. One author remarked that the hypnotic state is characterized by heightened concentration, suggestibility, and relaxation (Mott, 1982). Certain individuals are thought to be capable of achieving this state more readily than others. A so-called hypnotic &#8220;induction&#8221; whereby a hypnotist using certain procedures to bring an individual into the hypnotic state is not a prerequisite for achieving the state (Mott, 1982). Hypnosis, contrary to the claims of some intemet advertisers cannot magically reprogram people&#8217;s minds. In short, methods of hypnosis run the gamut from simple relaxation techniques to formal inductions administered by hypnotists, but should not be considered supernatural in its effects.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Studies showing weight loss as a result of hypnosis alone are few in number and suffer from methodological problems. Andersen (1985) reported that following 8 weekly treatment sessions and 12 weeks of practicing self-hypnosis subjects lost an average of 20.2 pounds. Cochrane and Friesen (1986) concluded that moderate weight loss was obtained by subjects using hypnosis. The experimental group, lost more weight than the controls and maintained the weight loss at a six month follow-up.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Mott (1982) stated that &#8220;although hypnosis is sometimes referred to as a method of treatment, it is more accurate to regard hypnosis as a facilitator of a number of different treatment methods.&#8221; The study concludes that the use of hypnosis for a moderate weight loss is effective using hypnotherapy. Hypnosis Plus Behavioral Weight Management A number of studies indicate that hypnosis combined with a behavioral weight management program contributes significantly to weight loss. Bolocofsky, Spinler, and Coulthard-Morris (1985) revealed that the addition of hypnosis to a behavioral program designed to alter eating patterns increased the amount of weight loss at 8-month and 2year follow-ups. Both the behavioral and hypnosis programs were tailored to each subject individually in the study. Bolocofsky et al. (1984) acknowledged that &#8220;the less a person weighed at the start of the program the more likely he was to lose weight and maintain the reduction&#8221;. Hypnosis combined with behavioral weight management seems to be more effective for small amounts of weight loss. Another study of 45 females found that supplementing a basic self-management program with hypnosis resulted in a slightly greater amount of weight loss at a 3-month follow-up (Barabasz and Spiegel, 1989). The group for which individualized hypnotic suggestions were developed lost more weight than those exposed only to a group procedure. Kirsch (1996) noted a weight loss of 6.00 pounds without hypnosis and 11.83 pounds with hypnosis based on a meta-analysis of six studies. Allison and Faith (1996), however, disagreed and maintained that hypnosis only enhances cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy slightly if at all. Long-term individualized hypnosis combined with a behavioral weight management program appears to contribute to modest weight loss and helps maintain it.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Hypnosis operates mainly as a way to increase participants&#8217; attention to suggestions of behavioral programs as well as to reinforce their weight loss. Studies using behavioral treatments successfully &#8220;typically have developed incentive systems to bridge the gap between the short-term -reinforcers provided during treatment and long-term goal of weight reduction&#8221; (Bolocofsky et al., 1985). Hypnosis can fulfill this role by stepping in as a psychological reinforcer. Hypnosis may assist subjects in learning positive eating behaviors and creating healthy long-term patterns of food intake. Subjects are then more likely to incorporate the rules of a particular program into their behavioral regimes (Bolocofsky, 1985). Kroger (1970) points out the similarities between hypnosis and behavioral treatments which share an emphasis on visualization and imagination. The literature suggests that hypnosis is an ideal addition to behavioral weight management programs which tend to need supplementation to achieve long-term results.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Hodgepodge Problem in Weight Loss Studies The use of subjects of varying ages and backgrounds represents one challenge that plagues studies of hypnosis as a useful treatment for weight loss. Andersen (1985) utilized subjects ranging in age from 21-56 years, a considerable spread. Subjects in another study ranged in age from 17 to 67 resulting in considerable potential differences between the control group and the hypnosis group (Bolocofsky et al., 1985). The fact that subjects were not matched with regard to age could exaggerate results of weight loss as a result of hypnosis that may more accurately be attributed to age differences. McCabe, Jupp, and Collins (I985) suggested a tendency for younger women to drop out of weight loss programs relative to older women leading to a possible masking of potential effects of age. Bolocofsky et al. (1984) indicated that successful hypnotic weight loss participants were higher in self-control, weighed less at the start of the study, married, and more expressive. A wide variety of factors influence whether a given subject will lose weight through a hypnotic weight loss program. Anderson (1985) cites the absence of matched subjects as a weakness in her experiment. More studies with subjects closely matched on various characteristics should be conducted to substantiate claims about the effectiveness of hypnosis for weight loss when combined with a behavioral program.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Most studies require weekly consultation with a hypnotist for 8 weeks or more in addition to self-hypnosis (Bolocofsky et al., 1984; Bolocofsky et al., 1985, Andersen, 1985; Cochrane &amp; Friesen, 1986; McCabe et al., 1985). Internet advertisers who claim weight loss will occur following a single hypnotic session, especially a group hypnotic session, are frauds selling dreams to desperate customers. Allison and Faith (1996) underscore that &#8220;there is currently no panacea for the treatment of obesity and hypnosis is no exception&#8221;. Treatment using hypnosis then is not a quick and easy way out of weight troubles. In order to achieve any benefits from its use, hypnosis must be practiced on a regular basis for a significant period of time.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Conclusions and Limitations</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Hypnosis has been shown to be an effective treatment for low to moderate amounts of weight loss. One qualification of this statement is that the hypnotic program should be tailored to each individual. Hypnosis is a process by which an individual enters a state of relaxation and heightened suggestibility, Transformation of the brain through some mysterious process defines only the hypnosis of pseudoscientists. Quick-fix hypnosis is probably much less effective than an 8 week program using both in-session hypnosis, at-home self-hypnosis, and behavioral weight management. The only people who claim hypnosis is easy, simple, and quick are those trying to sell people on their program. The largest obstacle in weight loss is its long-term retention, but follow-ups of hypnosis as a weight loss treatment have been conducted at the longest after two years. Weight loss tapes lack scientific evidence to support their success and should be purchased with this knowledge in mind. Weight loss through hypnosis has been largely ignored by scientists and more studies with control groups and  large subject pools are required to understand its action and import.</p>

<p>&#13;The biggest challenge to losing weight and keeping it off is to make the process something you enjoy and can easily maintain. You should never feel deprived, skip meals or constantly feel hungry. <p>&#13;Learn the difference between appropriate and inappropriate foods. Foods that aid in fast weight loss are those that enable your body to remain healthy, yet raise your metabolism. These include raw fruits and vegetables, lean meats, chicken and fish as well as a small amount of whole grains. Inappropriate foods are those containing chemicals such as junk food, prepackaged foods, refined sugars, bad fats and refined carbohydrates.</p>
<p>&#13;Your mind set has everything to do with losing weight. If you are programmed to think that fast weight loss is unhealthy, then that will be a detriment to your success What the mind can conceive, the body can achieve. However, as you continue to think about losing weight quickly, you will find that your body will respond too.</p>
<p>&#13;Program your mind to visualize yourself at the weight that&#8217;s best for your body type. Begin to think like a person weighing your target weight. Create an image in your mind of how that person will look, act and feel with an attractive, slim and healthy body. Fast weight loss incorporates all facets of the mind and body.</p>
<p>&#13;When and how you eat also affects the way you lose weight. Always eat at the table when you are at home. As you fill your plate with food, choose those items that will promote weight loss. Think about how each dish will help you to lose your weight and increase your metabolism. Eat slowly and put your fork down between each bite. Fast weight loss is enhanced as you enjoy your food.</p>
<p>&#13;Another aspect in avoiding toxic foods is to know which fats to eat and which to stay away from. The good fats contain essential fatty acids will not only aid in fast weight loss but will give you a good balanced diet. Staying away from the bad fats such fried foods, fatty meats, saturated oils and trans fats will allow you to reach your goal sooner.</p>

However, if most of you wants to stay the same and a small significant part of you wants to change, you can do it. <p>When you are heavy, every pound is a great accomplishment. Every pound that is lost is a feather in your cap. When you don’t lose, you feel discouraged. This discouragement translates into depression and anxiety. You begin to feel like the strategy is not working. Then you lose hope and belief dies.</p>

She could eat a lot and her body could not process and send her the message that she had eaten enough. Once she worked to slow her eating, she lost weight and felt full as well.</p>

<p>Boredom is another trigger. If you can find ways to enjoy yourself other than eating, you will be busy enough to lose weight. If your only enjoyment is eating, diets are doomed to fail. You always feel like you are deprived. When you find an interesting hobby and can enjoy yourself in other ways, then you get rid of the eating out of boredom.</p>

<p>One of my clients ate at every leisure event. She always went out to eat. She had no hobbies and could never diet. She developed some hobbies with talkingbooks and caring for a parrot. With these two hobbies, she was able to lose the weight and keep it off.</p>
